BIOGRAPHY
Mz Neon is a genre-defying vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer whose iconoclastic sound fuses a sleek yet DIY approach to musical synthesis. Her forthcoming debut album, Maximaschina, is a 16-track opus of sludgy riffs, pulsing beats, and emotive hooks—a style she flippantly calls "Dungeon Pop." Crossing the abyss of musical genre to arrive at new and uncharted territory, the record is a post apocalyptic landscape of industrial laden pop and tekno-punk futurism with rap, reggae and country rock twists and defiant proclamations. Her arcane and provocative lyrical prowess marries the spirit of protest punk with anthemic and sophisticated pop accessibility. A pivotal collaboration with Linda Perry helped shape the album, refining Mz Neon's songwriting and creative direction while solidifying her position as one of today's most fearless and dynamic artists. Through extensive touring alongside artist like Poppy, Blood Red Shoes, and Lords of Acid, her appeal across demographic and geographically diverse audiences is ever expanding.
Mz Neon first emerged in New York City's underground, where she spent over a decade immersed in the punk, ballroom vogue, and downtown art scenes. Working as a DJ, stylist, and costume designer, she developed her multidisciplinary craft while performing in various music projects. She honed in on her skillset musically as a vocalist, guitar player, bassist and self taught producer during this time, incorporating her multimedia work in visual art and costume design to cultivate a unique artistic approach to performance and archetypal storytelling. As a pre-transitioned queer outsider originally from the outskirts of Boston, these formative years in NYC seeded the personal and artistic growth Mz Neon needed to become the artist and woman she since became through this alchemized evolution.
In 2017, Mz Neon relocated to Los Angeles, amidst her medical transition and redefining her artistic identity. This transformation catalyzed her evolution into the bold and embodied artist she is today. In Los Angeles, Mz Neon released her debut single, "Pussy Stick," and gained recognition as the subject of Paper Magazine's 2019 documentary Mz Neon, which chronicled her transition and creative journey. Performing alongside artists such as Marc Almond, Hercules & Love Affair, Egyptian Lover, Cumgirl8, Surfbort, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, and Azealia Banks, she established herself as a captivating live act. She also became a sought-after personality, appearing on radio shows and podcasts, including Snoop Dogg's Mary Jane Network.
During the pandemic, Mz Neon released two acclaimed EPs that highlighted her fearless approach to collaboration. The incendiary anthem "Cop Fucker" featured Lydia Lunch, while the sultry single "Be My Bitch" showcased a collaboration with Jennifer Finch of L7. These releases cemented her reputation for provocative and boundary-pushing artistry. As a fierce advocate for trans inclusivity, Mz Neon has shared her insights at music panels like Melbourne's inaugural Changes Festival and used her platform to amplify underrepresented voices. Post-pandemic, she connected with Linda Perry, whose mentorship and collaboration transformed her creative trajectory. Together, they laid the groundwork for Maximaschina, an album that merges raw experimentation with deeply personal themes of empowerment and transformation.
Now, with Maximaschina on the horizon, Mz Neon solidifies her position as a trailblazing artist whose music and message are as groundbreaking as they are essential. With an extensive touring history, powerful collaborations, and a reputation for provocative, boundary-pushing artistry, Mz Neon's work is both a cultural statement and a powerful call to action that demands to be heard. Her work challenges conventions while amplifying the voices of underrepresented communities, resonating deeply in a world hungry for authenticity and transformation.
